WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEARNER?

This morning Patrick asked us the question, 'What makes a good learner?' We didn't really know, so Patrick asked us to get into pairs, put our brains together and think as hard as we could. Once we had a few ideas, Patrick asked us to type our groups ideas onto a Google Doc. We looked at everyone's ideas and made a list of the things we think a good learner does.

Now we understand what it takes to be an even better learner than we are now!

HELEN RETURNS!!!

This week we were lucky enough to have Helen come into the classroom and teach us about Writing. We have been looking at the stories 'The Day The Crayons Quit' and 'The Day The Crayons Came Home.' Our first task was to pretend that we were a crayon and write a letter to Duncan (who is our owner) explaining why he should use us more often. Patrick and Helen dressed up as black crayon and red crayon to help us with some ideas. It was really funny.

The next task we had to pretend that we were a crayon that Duncan left behind somewhere. We had to write Duncan a letter explaining that we are coming home. The letters are fanstastic!

MARKET FRESH!!!

Last Friday, some Market Fresh ladies came to visit us at school. They brought a variety of different fruits and vegetables for us to try. They taught us a bit about what nutrients are in the foods that we eat and asked us to eat as colourful as possible.

SYMBOLIZE US!!!

For Religion we have been looking at signs and symbols. We have been investigating the differences between the two and looking at the symbols within our church. Here are the definitions that we created for signs and symbols.

Sign: is something that gives you a direction
Symbol: something has represents something else and has a deeper meaning.

Using our knowledge of symbols Patrick asked us to create a symbol that represents our class. We brainstormed words, chose 3 of the words and designed our own unique symbols.

Here are some:

PATRICK'S DREAM ISLAND!!

For Maths we have been looking at location and direction. We have been working really hard with our mapping skills. We are so good at reading coordinates and using north, south, east and west. Patrick decided to put our awesome mapping skills to test. He gave us a blank grid and told us that on the grid we had to map his 'Dream Island.' He then gave us directions and coordinates that he had to be mapped. The directions where to things that he had on the island, for example, an airport. It was up to us to read the directions carefully and accurately map the 'Dream Island.' We did an amazing job.

THE END!!!

Our Inquiry unit has been so much fun. We started with a small focus on gravity, then we traveled on to investigating push and pulls at our school, then we went on an awesome excursion to look at indoor and outdoor playground pushes and pulls, and we have finished off with constructing our own playground equipments that incorporated pushes or pulls!

A big THANK YOU for all of the parents who helped Patrick gather materials for our construction day.
